Rainy Days and Mondays #4
May. 25th, 2015 08:07 am#4. Stranded!
After Jackie told him that he had another chance with her, Max got on the first plane to the resort. He was going to be there in less than twenty four hours. That was the plan.
What Max didn’t plan on was the rental car dying in the middle of nowhere and his cell not getting a signal. Not even a half a bar. He refused to take this as a sign.
Max walked down the highway to the next town. By the time he got there he was drenched in sweat and exhausted. He headed for the first place he could find that may have a working phone. It was a diner with a cow on the roof and a neon sign that said ‘Bessie’s’.
Max walked into the diner and all eyes were on him as he walked over to the counter. The waitress looked worriedly at him as he sat down and asked to use a phone. He must have looked like he was about to die from the look on her face.
The waitress gave him a glass of water and pointed to the pay phone on the wall in the corner.
Max called the rental company about the car and was assured that it would be picked up as soon as possible. Max gave them the mile marker where he had left it and they dispatched the tow truck.
Max’s second call was to Jackie. He told her what happened and where he was. She surprised him when she said that she knew where he was. Jackie told him to stay there and wait. She was on the way.
At least Max didn’t have to be stranded in this hot dusty town for long. Jackie would save him. Then he would save their relationship that he had ruined.
