#9. “There's no rain as fertile as tears…”  ~ Marcel Proust.
Max came back to the city a year after he left and started to look for Jackie. She wasn’t at the apartment they had shared and she had changed jobs. No one that Max knew had any idea where Jackie could be. It was almost as if she had fallen off the earth.

Max started to look for her friends but they wouldn’t give him any information. Some of them wouldn’t even speak to him.

On the last day in town, Max sat on the bed of hotel room in tears. He couldn’t find her. His heart was shattered into a million little pieces.

Suddenly there was a knock on the door; a bellman had a note for him. His heart soared when he saw Jackie’s handwriting but as he read the note his heart crashed to the earth.

The note was short and to the point. Jackie had cried until she couldn’t then she found someone new. Her tears had helped her grow beyond. The girl that she was into the woman she became. She was married and they were happy. She and her new husband were expecting a child in the spring.

Max shoved it in his pocket and left the city. He knew he would never come back. He had been the one to ruin the relationship and now he was the one left out in the cold.

#10. "I'll Remember You" (Song Prompt “I'll Remember You” Kui Lee)
In a cemetery years later, an old man stood under a tree with a bouquet of red roses. He watched the service for a woman that was well loved by her children and grandchildren.

He looked at their faces and saw traces of the woman he once loved. She was a part of every one of them. Even in their moment of grief, she was there.

As the mourners walked past the coffin placing pink roses on it, the old man came forward. Everyone turned to look at him as he places the bouquet among the other flowers.

He turned and walked away quickly. He couldn’t bear to answer the questions they had on the tip of their tongues. He just wanted to disappear as quietly as he came.

One of the woman’s children looked at the red roses and pulled a card out that was tucked inside.

“My dearest Jackie,
I’ll remember you always.
Love Max”

A soft rain started to fall.

Characters: Billie, Jinx the cat
Word Count: 298
Prompt: Hangover

Billie slowly opened an eye and shut it quickly. It was far too bright. She tried again and managed to squint through the blinding light.

Billie could tell by the cat sitting on her chest that she had made it home in one piece.

“Get off me, Jinx.” Billie whispered. It sounded louder than it should have.

Jinx the cat laid down on Billie's chest and shot the death glare at her.

“Not today Jinx. You can't kill me tomorrow.” Billie lifted the cat off her chest and carefully sat up.

“I'm never drinking again.” Billie sat on the edge of the bed until her head stopped pounding. “Who am I kidding? I'll be back at the bar again as soon as I get an excuse.”

Billie slowly walked to the bathroom and stared in the mirror. She made a face and turned on the shower. She stripped and got in.

She let the warm water bring her back from the edge. As soon as she felt better she got out and grabbed a towel.

Jinx glared at her again from the foot of the bed as she got dressed.

Billie began to wonder if she had offended the evil creature in some way. Billie eyed the cat as she went into the kitchen. She found an empty cat food bowl.

Billie opened the cat food bag and slapped a hand over her mouth before running to the bathroom to throw up.

When Billie returned to the kitchen Jinx was in the cat food bag feeding herself.

“I don't know how you eat that vile stuff.” Billie said as she pulled the cat from the bag and filled the food dish. “I guess we all have our weaknesses.”

Jinx just chewed and gave her the death glare again.

“I'm Frank. Nice to meet you, Jack. So what are you calling Nick about?” Frank asked.

“Talk dirty to him?” Frank chuckled.

“Well yeah.” Jack sighed.

“Well, I'm not kind of guy but if you want to have a beer sometime I'd be happy to hang out.” Frank suggested.

“There's a sports bar called ‘Leon's’.” Jack said. “I like to watch basketball there.”

“I know the place. I love basketball. I was a power forward. Did you play in school?” Frank asked.

“Yeah. I was a point guard.” Jack laughed.

“Bet that was interesting. You liking guys and such.” Frank laughed.

“It was a lot of fun. Until, the guys on the team caught me staring.” Jack laughed. “Meet me at eight. I'll buy the first round.”

“Its a date.” Frank laughed. “Well sort of.”

“Got ya.” Jack laughed.

Characters: Pilot, Passenger, Tower operator
Word Count: 193
Prompt: Bad Connection

“Hello! Hello! Do you hear me?” The pilot clicked the microphone again. “Mayday! Mayday!”

Static was the only answer on the radio.

The pilot turned the knobs on the radio. There was still nothing but static.

The pilot looked back at the passenger who was white knuckled in his chair.

“It’s just a matter of time until they answer.” The pilot called over his shoulder. He looked over the instruments. “I just hope it’s not too long.”

The radio continued to be nothing but static.

“Mayday! Mayday!” The pilot tried again.

Suddenly the radio cleared. “Pilot restate mayday.”

“I have no instruments and I'm flying blind. Do you see my position?” The pilot asked.

“We've got you. You are three miles off the Florida coast. Follow the beacons as soon as they come in sight.” Tower told him.

“Got it. I see them. Help me land without killing my passenger.” The pilot said.

The tower gave the pilot instructions to land. The landing was bumpy but they got down in one piece.

The pilot turned around and looked at the passenger. “See! We are down in one piece.”

The passenger glared at him.
