Endora turned her horse, Sugarplum, along the path towards Dragons Peak. She was on a journey to the Sacred Cave of the Ancient. It was a journey she was dreading. The Ancient would know why she was there even before she told him.
It wasn't normal for a Queen of the Tuathe to consult with mystics of other races but since the fall of the Northern Court things were
not normal. But then again Endora wasn't a normal faerie.
Now that Endora was the only faerie of royal blood left after the attack on the Southern Court. She needed to know what threats were out there and she couldn't trust one of her own to be truthful.
The Ancient was the keeper of many secrets. His wise vision was legendary. His identity was a mystery. No one knew where he came from or how old he was. He had been in the cave when Ogham-Duir was settled. Some think he is older than time itself.
Sugarplum stopped and snorted. She shook her head and wouldn't move.
Endora looked around. She nudged the horse trying to get the horse to move. "Come now. There's nothing here."
There was a rustle in the woods near the path.
Endora looked over at the woods and pulled her sword. "Show yourself!"
A head popped out of the woods. The small green dragon with a broken horn suddenly wagged his tail. His name was Myrdren but most people called him Puff.
"Puff, what are you doing out here?" Endora put her sword back in its scabbard. "Aura will be looking for you."
The little dragon came out of the woods and stood in the road. He dug his claws into the dirt path and refused to move.
Endora dismounted from her horse. "Go on now. I have somewhere to go. Shouldn't you be hungry by now? It's nearly noon."
Puff dipped his head and looked determined not to move.
"Fine." Endora adjusted the cloak covering her wings. "You'll just have to come with me. I'm going to see the Ancient."
Puff shook his head and moved out of the way. He gave her a look of worry.
"Don't look so worried. I have my crystal sword with me." Endora climbed back on Sugarplum. "Go home. I'll be fine."
Puff wagged his tail and walked down the path in the opposite direction.
Endora nudged Sugarplum on. She wasn't far from the cave. She rode on in silence. It wasn't like Puff to be worried. Whatever was worrying Puff she would find out eventually. She rounded a bend in the path and the cave came into site.
Standing at the mouth of the cave, the ancient was waiting for her.
"Come little Queen. I have been waiting for you. We have much to talk about." The Ancient waved her inside.
Endora dismounted and tied Sugarplum's reins to a nearby tree. "Since you knew that I was coming then you know why I'm here."
"I do. Come inside." The ancient disappeared in the darkness of the cave.
Endora put her hand on her sword and adjusted her cloak. She walked into the cave to get her questions answered.
