The Blessings of Fandom

No matter what people say Fandom can be a wonderful thing. There are those that roll their eyes at our ‘fan girl speak’. There are those that do not understand why we ‘ship. There will be some that don’t understand why we write, create and generally immerse ourselves in a show. These are the people we should pity. They will never know the blessings that fandom brings.

Fan Fiction:

For those of us that create fan fiction, our favorite book, show, or movie gives us ideas for other great stories and scenes. It takes up beyond the place where the original creation stops. We use it to fill in gaps, rewrite what we can’t accept, and take our favorite characters on journeys. Fan fiction is our daydreams in print to share with others.      

Fan Art:

For the fan artist, creating graphics and original art inspired by characters is our way of paying homage to them. No matter what the medium, we create more of what we want to see. We extend the visual image of the story and with that image a story in itself. Fan art is our minds eye at work telling a story with an image worth hundreds of words.

Community:    

In fandom, there is a sense of community. We gain good friends that we would have never had otherwise. Our friends share our hopes dreams and desires. They read our fan fiction view our fan art. They are from different countries and speak different languages. They are old or young and male or female. They are the ones who feel our pain and share our joy. They are the true blessing of fandom.
