#3. The smell of rain on dry earth always made him/her think of....
Jackie stood on the balcony of the resort. It was hot and dry. There was the threat of rain on the horizon.
She looked over the parched earth and thought about her relationship with Max. Her heart felt as parched as the ground below. She felt it wither in her chest from lack of trust.
There seemed nothing left of the relationship they had shared for the past five years. Jackie wasn’t sure if they were over but it certainly felt like it. She wondered if Max felt the same way.
Max had not apologized. He didn’t give her an excuse either. Jackie had to get away from him just for a little while. Maybe that would make him realize what he had and he would come to his senses.
Maybe she would find love again. Maybe she wouldn’t. All Jackie knew was that she needed to heal.
The first raindrops started to fall on the parched earth. Jackie stood out in the rain and let it wash away everything that gave her pain.
Jackie took a deep breath. The smell of rain on dry earth always made her think of new beginnings. It was like the world was telling her that even though she felt empty now that she would be full of possibilities again. What those possibilities were, she had no way of knowing.
That was when Jackie’s phone rang in the room. She went inside to get it. She looked at the caller ID and it was Max.
Jackie answered the call. Maybe that was the possibility she was waiting for. It was the possibility of a fresh start with Max.
