Over the next few weeks, Anna and Retalon grew closer. They had still not mated since the bonding but they were beginning to be more comfortable showing affection. More than once, Analla walked into the sitting room to find them in each other’s arms kissing.
The nights were the hardest for Retalon. He was overwhelmed by her closeness and the way she was becoming at ease with him sleeping next to her.
The new silk nightdresses didn’t help Retalon maintain his control either. They were thin and soft to the touch. He could feel every inch of her warm skin under his embrace.
Anna could tell that he wanted to mate and she knew that there would come a time when she couldn’t hold herself away from him anymore. She wanted it as much as he did.

On the day after the Council of Atlantis called a recess for the summer months, Lord and Lady Draconis moved households to the estate on Ogham-Duir.
Analla went over early that morning on the ferry with the trunks to open up the house. Analla was to meet them at cove with a picnic when they arrived.
Retalon and Anna were flying from Atlantis to the secluded cove on Ogham-Duir called Dragon Tail Cove. It was on the Atlantis facing side of Dragon’s Peak. From there they would take the trail around the mountain to the Draconis Estate.
Anna packed up the few things that were left at the Atlantis household in a satchel. She looked through their quarters one last time to make sure nothing was left behind. She found Retalon in the sitting room putting a few books in another satchel.
“What are you doing?” Anna asked.
“I wanted to bring some of the books on Draconia with us to Ogham-Duir. Don’t worry. I won’t spend the entire summer reading. We will have some adventures.” Retalon said as he pulled another of the books off the shelf.
“I haven’t read these yet so I may be the one reading this summer.” Anna said as she looked in the satchel. She smiled. “I never thought I would ever say that. I always wanted to be able to read and I am so grateful that you taught me.”
“You are a quick study.” Retalon said as he closed the satchel. “Have you packed everything that was left?”
“Yes. It was just a few things. Analla took most of it. We should get going she is probably waiting for us.” Anna told him.
“You’re right.” Retalon took the satchel from her and they left their quarters. He locked the door behind them and they headed for the walkway to shift.
They both removed their robes and Anna put them in the satchel with their other things. They both shifted and Retalon carried the satchels in his talons.
Anna loved the feel of the wind as she flew. She started to fly around Retalon. She nipped at him playfully and swatted at him with her tail.
Retalon snorted and tried to catch her tail in his mouth. He was enjoying playing with her. He had never seen her so free and spirited.
When they reached the cove, Analla was setting up the picnic. She waved to them when she saw them.
Retalon dropped the two satchels near the cart and flew out to where Anna was still circling in the air. He caught her tail in his mouth and pulled her down into the water with him.
The cold water made Anna shift instantly. She rose to the surface and gasped. She spotted Retalon already shifted and grinning at her.
“That was not fair. I didn’t expect that. Oh and the water is cold.” Anna shivered.
Retalon leisurely swam up to her in his human form. He held out his hand to her to pull her close.
Anna splashed him with both her hands and ducked back under the water.
“Anna?” Retalon looked around but didn’t see her.
Just then she rose from the water in dragon form and used her back talon to dunk him in the water.
Analla was laughing at them and headed for the wagon before she got wet. “I will let you to romp in peace I will be back in a few hours to collect you.”
Anna nodded in midair and Retalon waved to her right before he shifted and soared up into the air. He tried to grab Anna’s tail again but she was too quick and moved away from him.
Anna landed on the beach at the edge of the surf and waited for Retalon to join her.
He landed close to her and tilted his head as if to ask why she had landed.
Anna nuzzled him and nosed her way underneath his arm. She pushed up against his belly as she positioned herself underneath him. She purred as she felt him becoming aroused.
Retalon was surprised at her. He didn’t think that the first time they mated after their bonding would be as dragons. He purred back at her as she continued to rub against him.
He grabbed her hips and moved into position. He was amused that her tail wrapped around him and out of the way. He penetrated her slowly and was surprised that her purring continued. She pushed back against him to get him to continue. They mated slowly and gently until they both roared as they climaxed. Retalon leaned into her as he released then pulled back and let go of her hips.
Anna shifted and rolled over to look up at him. She petted him on the snout and even kissed him.
Retalon shifted and kissed her passionately. He felt her legs wrap around him and her hips move against him causing him to become aroused again.
“Anna, my golden beauty, I have waited so long for you to come to me.” Retalon said.
“I’m here and I’m yours, Retalon. Mate with me.” Anna whispered in his ear.
Retalon slipped inside her again and was amazed that she was responding to him passionately. They mated until they were breathless and sated. Retalon released as she arched her hips towards him crying out in her pleasure.
Anna ran her hand through his hair as they lay still tangled together. “Now we are truly bonded in skin and scale. I am your vessel and you are my heart.”
“Yes you may be my vessel but it’s my heart that is being kept there. I have given it to you already.” Retalon told her as he looked into her green eyes.
“I will keep it safe as I know you will keep mine safe.” Anna kissed him. She looked over at the picnic then back to Retalon. “We should eat. We will need our strength to make all those children I have promised you.”
“Not yet.” Retalon said. “I want you to know that when we were betrothed I never expected to love you the way I do. I do love you, Anna.”
“I was expecting a different life.” Anna stroked his cheek and smiled up at him. “The life that my mother has endured was supposed to be my destiny. You changed my life from one of duty to one of joy. I love you, Retalon. I love you with all my heart.”
My golden beauty, I will love you until the day that I die and even past that.” Retalon kissed her.
Anna started to cry tears of joy. “That is the one thing I have always wanted to hear from my husband. My dearest one.”
They mated once more and then went to dress and eat.
Analla found them two hours later, laughing and talking of babies as they fed each other.
Analla cleared her throat as she approached. “Was everything to your liking?”
Anna nodded enthusiastically and Retalon just laughed.
“Take us home, Analla. The summer has just begun and we do not want to waste a moment of it. Do we, my golden beauty?” Retalon said as he helped Anna to her feet.
“No not a moment, my dearest one.” Anna said as she caressed his cheek.
