Yuletide: The Counting Calendar

 The Counting Calendar

When the two faeries got outside Princess Endora pulled out the list. “A counting calendar? Where would we get that?”

“Doesn’t the list say?” Dionne looked over Princess Endora’s shoulder.

“No it doesn’t. We should try the candle shop. I bet they have one in there.” Princess Endora said.

“Um. I don’t know, Endora. Don’t they just sell candles?” Dionne asked.

“No. They sell cards and other things too.” Princess Endora said as she headed to Illuminarium Candle Shop.  It was just across Rose Square.

They entered and Adela the clerk called out from the back. “I’ll be right there.”

“No hurry.” Princess Endora called back.

Adela came up front with a new bunch of red candles. “Oh Princess Endora, how can I help you?

“My sister, Lady Aura wants me to pick up a counting calendar. Do you have one on those?” Endora asked.

“Oh yes! They are on the shelf over there.” Adela pointed to the shelf along the wall. “The mundanes use them to count to their Winter holiday. Strange custom if you ask me.”

Princess Endora picked one out and brought it to the counter. “I like this one. Do you know what this creature is?”

“It’s a penguin. They live far north. I think. That will be one silver, My Lady.” Adela wrapped the counting calendar in brown paper and tied it with string. She handed it to Princess Endora.

Princess Endora nodded and took the silver out of the coin purse that Lady Aura gave her. “Thank you and Happy Yule!” Endora tucked it under her arm and the faeries were on their way once more.

“Happy Yule!” Adela said as they left.
