The Errand

Princess Endora walked through the Village of Crystal Spires to the Glassworks. She had come to pick up and deliver the platter that Queen Taralen had commissioned for wedding gift. She was taking her time and enjoying the hustle and bustle of the village at midday.

Endora was just about to turn into the shop when she saw someone she knew. She called out. “Paddrick!”

“Endora I was looking for you.” Paddrick said as he came up. “I’ve been asking around about a wish faerie named Endora.”

“Wish faerie?” Endora was confused.

“You were wearing a blue cloak when we met.” Paddrick looked at her white cloak with the gold embroidery and was confused.

“Oh that was Aura’s. I left mine at home.” Endora smiled and realized why he thought she was a wish faerie. “What are you doing in Crystal Spires?”

“Like I said I was looking for you. I was hoping we could spend some time together. Maybe a picnic? That mountain is very pretty. I’d like to explore it with you and do a few sketches.” Paddrick smiled.

“Well, I have an errand to do but then I’m free. We can get something from the Fresh Market and head up the mountain.” Endora said.

“Sounds lovely. Can I help you with the errand?” Paddrick asked.

“I just have to make sure something is delivered. It will take me a moment.” Endora went back towards the Glassworks and Paddrick opened the door for her and they went in.

The clerk looked up and smiled. “My Lady! How good to see you. I am guessing you’re here on the Queen’s business.”

“Yes. I came to pay for the platter and make sure you have the delivery instructions.” Endora said.

“It’s for the wedding of Prince Dragas and the Lady Aura isn’t it?” The clerk nodded.

Endora nodded.

“I have the details already. There have been several gifts sent already to them. I will have the platter delivered today.” The clerk assured her.

“Thank you. My mother would like a wine set to be set as well. Something pretty.”

“I made one with the same design as the platter. I was expecting a note from the Crown Princess to order it. She has a habit of ordering for wine sets as gifts. I’ll bring it out for you to approve. Will there be anything else?”

“You wouldn’t happen to have a fruit bowl with that same pattern.” Endora inquired.

“I may. I’ll take a look.” The clerk left to check.

Endora picked up a glass unicorn and looked at it.

“Your mother is the Crown Princess?” Paddrick asked.

“Yes. I thought you knew that. Didn’t I tell you?”

“No. you didn’t. So that makes you a Princess.”

Endora nodded and put down the unicorn. She picked up a spiral sculpture with a butterfly made of blue glass inside it.

“No wonder nobody knew where you lived. You live in the mist.” Paddrick said. He didn’t look well.

“At the castle in the mist to be more precise.” Endora smiled. “Still want to go on that picnic?”

Paddrick thought for a moment. “Yeah. Maybe we can go to the wedding together too.”

Endora laughed. “My sister is very private. She doesn’t like uninvited guests. I think you'll have to wait for your invitation. That is if she is inviting you.”

“Why do I get the feeling they have already gone out and I have no chance of getting one.” Paddrick said.

“I’ll let her know you want to come. Where should she send it?” Endora asked.

“I’m staying at the tavern in Brimstone.” Paddrick told her.

“I’ll tell her.” Endora set the sculpture down.

“Princess, I have the wine set and a fruit bowl.” The clerk came out from the back with a helper following him. They were carrying three boxes.

Endora looked at the contents of all three and nodded. “Roses! They are perfect as everything always is. Thank you.” She took a purse of gold out and put it on the counter. “I think this is enough for everything.”

The clerk looked in the purse and nodded. “The Royal Family is generous as always. I will have them delivered right away.”

“Thank you.” Endora smiled and left with Paddrick.

They walked away without talking for a few minutes.

Paddrick put his hand on her arm. “If you are a Princess where is your guard and attendants? Why are you dressed like a boy?”

“I always go alone and dressed like this. Faerieglen is usually a safe place, especially Crystal Spires. I’m not a typical Princess but I am still a Princess.”

Paddrick nodded. “Endora, can I postpone our picnic. I need to do something I had forgotten all about. You don’t mind do you?”

“No. I’ll just go to Aura’s to help with the wedding. I’ll have your invitation sent to you.” Endora was a little disappointed but she didn’t let it show.

“Thanks.” Paddrick smiled and turned to walk away. He turned back and bowed. “By your leave, Princess.”

Endora nodded and frowned. She watched him walk off for a minute before she shimmered to Aura’s cottage in Rosemont.

Paddrick watched Endora shimmer from behind a vendors cart and then he shimmered to the tavern in Brimstone. He poured water into the wash bowl and said a spell.

A female faerie with the same red hair answered. It was Queen March of the Tylwyth Teg. “What is it Paddrick?”

“Mother, I found my Princess.” Paddrick said

“I hope she’s not one of those wild things from the Midsummer Court.” Queen March said with a wrinkled nose.

Paddrick shook his head. “No, it’s Princess Endora of the Southern Tuathe.”

“I see. Does she know who you really are?” The Queen asked.

“No she has no idea I am a Prince of the Tylwyth Teg Court.” Paddrick said.

“Shall I contact queen Taralen on your behalf to make the proposal?” Queen March asked.

“No not yet! I want her to get to know me first.”

There was a knock at the door.

“I need to go Mother.” Paddrick waved his hand over the bowl and the Queen of the Tylwyth Teg disappeared.

He opened the door and an earth elemental dragon with a broken horn was standing there with an invitation in his mouth. Paddrick took the invitation and shut the door. He had his way into her heart. He just hoped he wouldn’t blow it.
