Three Sisters in the Storm

Victra
Victra stood outside the herb shed with a basket on her arm. She had just come from gathering herbs in the forest. She was just about to put them in the shed to dry when she felt a familiar tingle in the air.

She smelled the air and looked to the west. There was a thunderstorm coming. She knew it before she saw the cloud.

She could tell the storm was moving fast. She didn't have much time before the storm hit. She had to hurry.

She needed to get into the herb shed and start to prepare the herbs for drying. She opened the door and was blown inside by a sharp wind. The door slammed behind her.

Twenty minutes later, the rain pelted the roof of the shed. The wind was rattling the door to the shed. The storm was in full force outside.

Victra hurried but she was going to be working on the herbs for at least another twenty minutes. This was one of those times that she wished that she shared her sisters’ faerie powers.

By the time Victra finished with the herbs, the rain was coming down in buckets. It had gotten dark since she had went inside. Her cottage wasn’t visible from the shed.

She peeked out the door and sighed.. She held out her hand and a ball of light formed. She pulled her hood up and made a run for it.

Victra was soaked through by the time she entered the cottage. She was dripping into a puddle on the stone floor.

Canea looked up from her spot next to the hearth. The dragon looked at her mistress and shook her head in pity.

“Don’t look at me like that. I didn’t cause the storm.” Victra peeled off her cloak and reached into the wardrobe for dry clothes. “Not this time.”

The dragon chuckled.

“Knock it off, Candy.” Victra sighed. “If I had, I would have waited until I was home. That way I wouldn't have gotten so wet.”

The dragon snorted in amusement.

Aura
Aura walked out on the porch. She needed to fly. She could feel the dragon inside her craving to get out. When she looked up at the sky, she got frustrated. She knew right away she wouldn't be able to fly today.

There was a storm in the sky to the west. She could smell the rain and feel the electricity in the air. It was going to be a big storm.

Aura could tell it was a natural storm. There was a roll of thunder and a flash of white lightning. It had been so long since she had seen a natural storm that it startled her.

Most of the storms lately had been result of the war between the phoenix and the thunderbirds. Most battles look like a thunderstorm. The birds fought in the air causing black clouds to appear in the sky. The lightning during battle was normally red or dark grey.

“Aura, where are you?” Dragas called out from inside the cottage.

“I’m on the porch.” Aura turned to the open door. “There's a storm coming.”

Dragas came out on the porch. “Are you sure that it's a storm and not a battle?”

“Yes.” Aura held out her hand to him. “It means that I’m not going to fly again today. I’ve been so busy that I’ve been ignoring my need to transform.”

“You should just transform and get it out of your system.” Dragas took her hand. “If you don't you could just shift without warning. You don't want that to happen again, do you?”

“You're right. I’ll go ahead.” Aura stepped out into the front yard. She dropped her robe and shifted. She turned into a reddish gold dragon.

She launched into the air and flew in a circle around the neighborhood. She dipped down and flew close to the porch before she made one more circle and landed.

Raindrops started to fall. Aura landed and shifted back into her human form. She picked up her robe and put it back on. She ran back onto the porch between the raindrops.

“I feel much better. we better get inside before it starts to pour.” Aura grabbed Dragas’ hand and pulled him into the cottage.

Dragas closed the door and gave her a kiss. “Will that hold you for awhile?”

Aura nodded and wrapped her arms around him. “I’m going to put on the kettle. Maybe some toast and starrberry jam?”

“I’ll make a fire and we can get cosy.” Dragas held onto her hand for as long as he could. He smiled she finally let go.

Aura couldn't think of a better way to spend the afternoon. She just wanted to spend the day with Dragas cuddled up by the fire.

Endora
Endora pulled Sugarplum into a walk from the gallup that they had been traveling at. “Whoa. What is that? Looks like we are going to have some rain.”

Sugarplum danced nervously at the sound of the distant thunder. She neighed and shook her head.

“I heard that too. We better get moving before we get wet.” Endora patted her horse on the neck. “What do you say to making a run for the stables? I don't want to get wet. I'm a faerie not a mermaid.”

Sugarplum snorted.

“Hey!” Endora laughed. “Let's get going.”

Sugarplum broke into a gallop. She headed straight for the stables.

Endora laughed as she leaned forward and held on. The wind whipped through her hair as they flew down the road to the stables.

Endora loved riding Sugarplum. The horse was larger and more powerful than her unicorn, Astra.  The unicorn’s slighter build was more compatible with a fae rider but Endora didn't care. She preferred the larger animal for riding.

They reached the stables just as the rain started to fall. Endora jumped down and took the reins. She led the horse into the stables.

“Nosh! There's a storm coming.” Endora called out to the groom. “Make sure to keep the animals calm. It looks like it's going to be a bad one.”

“Yes Highness.” The groom nodded. “I’ll give them a little space so they don't hurt each other. I’ll put your horse in the larger stall in the back.”

“Thank you, Nosh. You know exactly what they need so I'm going to go. Send someone if you need help with Sugarplum.” Endora patted the horse's neck. She slipped the horse a sugar cube before she left.

Endora ran for the castle. She was soaked by the time she stepped inside. “Damn! I hate being wet.”

Dionne ran up with a warm dry towel. “My Lady, I prepared you a bath. Come, before you catch a chill.”

Endora took the towel and dried her face. “You're the best Dionne. That was exactly what I was hoping for. It's going to be a bad one. Send some hot food to Nosh, the groom. He’s going to have his hands full.”

“I’ll get you in the bath first, My Lady, then I’ll take care of sending something to the groom.” Dionne followed her mistress up the stairs to the princess's chambers. Would you like some buttered wine to warm you up?”

Outside the storm hit in full force. The rain came down in sheets. The sky lit up with lightning as the thunder clapped as they passed one of the stained glass windows on the stairs.
