The Mask We Wear In Public.
We all have a mask we wear in public. It shields our emotions and our thoughts. It conceals our true nature from those around us.
The mask lies. It gives us strength when we are weak. It gives us compassion when all we feel is contempt. It gives us a calm appearance when we are nothing but a bundle of nerves.
This mask can be anything we can hide behind. We often hide behind a smile. Sometimes our mask can a simple application of makeup.
We each have a mask. We use it every day. Some of us wear them better than others.

The Mask We Wear For Our Friends.
There are times when our public mask is too restrictive. This occurs when we are with our friends.
With our friends we exchange our public mask for a thinner one. We let them see feelings and thoughts we wouldn't let strangers see. It may be the same thoughts and feelings that they have shown to us.
But we still hide many things from our friends. We still use a mask to lie. its in our nature even with those who should be the ones who should know us best.

The mask we wear for ourselves is one of denial. This is the mask we use sometimes when things are just too much for us to handle.
It hides a death a betrayal or guilt from us. It acts as a shield for our heart. It keeps the truth at bay until we can handle it.
We are the only ones that see this mask. It can be pretty or ugly depending on what we see in the mirror. It is the face that only we can see when we are alone in the dark and quiet night.
This is mask is the one that only we can remove if we are willing to accept the truth and stop the lie.
