A haze rose from the rose colored pavement in the square of Rosemont. It felt like the hottest day there had ever been.
The heat glittered in the chips of quartz that gave it its rosy hue. It seemed to be melting in the sun.
The shop owners had closed up for lunch and the noon sun beat down relentlessly on the pavement. In a few hours there would be shade but it wouldn’t matter the pavement held on to the heat long after the sun had set.
Not even a cold spray with a hose would cool it down.
