It should be easy this writer thing. All I have to do is put words together and let them tell a story. Sounds easy but it’s not. The words don’t always come. Sometimes for days on end, there is nothing but empty word docs.
You see there is this thing called a Muse and that’s who sends the words out of my brain and into my fingers. I write what she tells me to write.
Muse sometimes tells me the stories in daydreams and sometimes in nightmares. She is sneaky like that.
Mine is female and a smartass. She is also very stubborn and occasionally pouty. Other people have told me things about their Muse. From what I hear, she’s pretty normal.
Muse has a thing for romance and smut. Science fiction seems to be her thing as well. She loves action and adventure too. She’s also a sucker for common tropes.
She loves fanfic and sometimes only tells me those stories even when I want to write original stuff. It’s a fight sometimes when I have things I want to write and all that’s coming out is stories about superheroes and sorcery.
When Muse does get to the original fiction, she has a tendency to get very spiritual at times. I find myself writing several Pagan themed stories. She must get that from me.
Sometimes Muse doesn’t say a word and other days Muse won’t shut up. She has a tendency to talk too fast. My typing can’t keep up with her sometimes. I love those chatty days.
Just once I would like to sit down with Muse to share some tea and cookies and discuss our working relationship. I doubt that I will ever get the chance but I at least have hope she would be more understanding of my wish to be a writer.
